Christmas In Iraq 2009
Christmas in Iraq 2009
Organized by Advanced Foot and Ankle Center in McKinney and Prosper, Texas
Thank you for visiting the Christmas in Iraq 2009 Blog Site
Earlier this year Advanced Foot and Ankle Center collected several items to send to my sister and her Army Unit in Iraq. They received the package this past week and were thrilled to get it. The package contained very simple things such as non perishable good and other items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream, lotions, socks, pens, paper, etc.
When my sister received the package she greatly thanked me and said, "I placed the items you sent on our table so the Soldiers could take what they they liked. The items you sent lasted about five minutes, people snatched up everything."
Honestly, I was taken back by her e-mail. We did not send anything that you and I don't take for granted every day. I thought to myself, "if they liked the small box of toiletries and such that we sent, I am sure that we can do better!"
I am aware that there are many soldiers out in Iraq and many of you have loved ones out there or know of someone or a family who has relatives out there. Many of these soldiers will be out there, away from their families this Holiday Season. As Founder of Eric M. Silvers, DPM, PA, dba Advanced Foot and Ankle, I have decided to be the Organizer for Christmas in Iraq 2009. This campaign will honor not only my sister, Kim Johnson, but also all the other troops in her Unit. I have decided to use the word "Christmas" as a generic word to show our willingness to give to the troops this holiday season. The Holiday Season is all about giving and I feel that this is one way to say "THANK YOU" to our troops for putting their life on the line to protect our freedom.
If you would like to be a part of this Campaign, please either drop off any items or donations to our Main Office, or you may send in the items or make a donation. I realize times are hard now with the economy and for that reason I am not asking for a lot of items or large donations. All I am asking for is a tube of toothpaste, a toothbrush, a couple bars of soap or the like, or you may make a monetary donation of $5, $10, $20 or any amount you feel comfortable with.
Please either drop off or mail any items or donations to:
Christmas in Iraq 2009
c/o Advanced Foot and Ankle Center
4501 Medical Center Drive, Suite 300
McKinney, Texas 75069
If you choose to send a check, make the check payable to "Advanced Foot and Ankle Center-Christmas in Iraq Fund."
I will be keeping a list of everyone who has made a contribution to the Campaign and will update that list on this blog site. If you do not want your name to be included, please inform me when you make your contribution.
I hope to collect at least 10,000 items for this Campaign in the form of direct item donations or monetary donations that will be used to purchased needed items for the troops along with covering delivery of the items.
About my sister, Kim Johnson.
My sister has been an officer in the United States Army for about 5 years now. During her college years at the University of Illinois-Chicago, she served on the ROTC. She then matriculated onto the United States Army as an Officer. She is now in Iraq serving her second tour out there. Once she is done with this tour, she would have spent over 3 years in Iraq, away from her now 16 year old son who she has been raising by herself since he was born without any help from his biological father. Although her son Eric Wilson now resides with my sister's husband, Micah Johnson, while she is in Iraq, Eric's time away from his mother has been hard for him. Kim is a very well respected officer in her unit and never complains about her job or the time she has invested in Iraq. She is never negative and is always upbeat and is proud to serve our country. Please join me in saying, "Thanks" not only to my sister but to all the troops in Iraq and overseas!!
In order to get the donations to Kim and the other troops in time for Christmas, we will need to send the items out by December 1, 2009. If you choose to make a donation, please do so before then.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me personally at 972-542-2155 or at my e-mail: texasmooneypilot@yahoo.com.
Thank you in advance for any donation you choose to make.
